Cucú 2025
Cantaba La Rana

11,50 €

Cucú 2025 is the most accessible wine from Barco del Corneta , Beatriz Herranz ‘s project in La Seca (Valladolid) , in the heart of Verdejo country. Outside the Rueda DO, under the Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León designation, it is a 100% Verdejo white wine that celebrates the variety with an artisanal, fresh, and honest approach.

Its name and legend, “the frog was croaking,” refer to the frogs that inhabit the Cantarranas area , where the family’s vineyards are located. The grapes from La Seca contribute structure, volume, and depth, while those from an organic grower in Segovia , in a cooler area, add tension, acidity, and vibrancy.

A fresh, mineral and characterful Verdejo , which moves away from the more technological and aromatic profiles of the area to show a tastier, more precise and gastronomic side.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Pale yellow with greenish reflections, clean and bright.

Nose: White and yellow fruit , citrus and lemon peel, with notes of fennel, mountain herbs, a background of straw and a slight memory of bitter almond, so typical of Verdejo.

On the palate: Fresh and flavorful entry, with a silky texture thanks to lees aging. Balanced acidity , good body, and a pronounced mineral character . Dry, clean finish with a very pleasant, slightly bitter note.

Cucú is made with organically grown , dry-farmed Verdejo grapes from vineyards located at an altitude of over 700 meters, on sandy and stony soils over a limestone base . The harvest is done by hand , and fermentation takes place with native yeasts , primarily in stainless steel tanks , while a small portion ferments and ages in French oak barrels .

The wine rests for about eight months on its lees , which gives it texture and complexity without detracting from the fruit or the expression of the territory.

A very gastronomic white wine that works especially well with grilled fish , seafood , rice dishes , seasonal vegetables , salads, Japanese cuisine, chicken, and goat and semi-cured cheeses .

It is also a very good option for appetizers and for Mediterranean market cuisine .

Why we like it

Because it demonstrates that Verdejo can be much more than just an aromatic and easy-drinking white wine, and it does so with an excellent price-quality ratio. Cucú reminds us of the potential of the vineyards of La Seca when they are worked with respect and sensitivity.

We love its balance of freshness, texture, and minerality , and how well it pairs with food. An ideal white wine for those already familiar with Verdejo as well as for those wanting to discover its more authentic side.
