Jhana 2024
Castell d’Encus

32,40 €

Jhana 2024 is the rosé from Castell d’Encus, the winemaker’s most personal project Raül Bobet (also responsible for Ferrer Bobet in Priorat). Born in Talarn, in it Pallars Jussà, within the DO Costers del Segre: a mountain landscape in the Pyrenees of Lleida, with vineyards about 1,000 meters altitudeIts name refers to a type of meditation, inspired by the silence and nature that surround the estate.

Made with Merlot and Petit Verdot , this is a gastronomic rosé unlike any light summer rosé. The Merlot contributes fruit, body, and a silky texture, while the Petit Verdot adds freshness, structure, and a touch of spice. The altitude and calcareous soils give it a lively acidity and a pronounced mineral character.

An elegant and highly distinctive rosé that proves that rosé can also be a great wine.

Tasting notes

Appearance: Pale salmon color with coppery highlights, clean and bright.

Nose: Subtle aromas of fresh red fruit , such as currant, raspberry and cherry, with notes of quince, mountain herbs such as thyme and a delicate floral background.

Palate: Fresh and silky entry, with a lively acidity that provides plenty of tension. Hints of stone fruit, fig, and Mediterranean herbs, with a mineral and chalky background. Long, complex, and very persistent finish.

Jhana is made with Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes from Castell d’Encus’s own vineyards, located between 800 and 1,000 meters above sea level on loamy-calcareous soils of marine origin and cultivated according to organic farming principles. The harvest is done by hand , in small 10 kg boxes.

After a brief maceration at low temperature , the must ferments in oak barrels , where it also undergoes aging. This process adds texture and complexity without detracting from the fruit or the mountain freshness. Production is very limited.

At Castell d’Encus, Raül Bobet combines the most modern techniques with ancestral methods, such as the stone wine presses carved into the rock in the 12th century by the Hospitaller monks, which are still used to ferment some of his wines.

A very gastronomic rosé that works especially well with sushi and Japanese cuisine , soupy rice dishes , steak tartare , red tuna, pasta with Bolognese sauce, sausages and semi-cured cheeses.

It’s also an excellent choice as an appetizer and to accompany a meal. Best served at 10-12°C , not too cold.

Why we like it

Because Jhana breaks all the stereotypes about rosé. It’s a serious, complex wine with aging potential, reflecting the freshness and purity of mountain wines from the Pyrenees .

We love its balance of fruit, acidity, and texture, and how well it pairs with food. An ideal rosé for those seeking quality wines and for those wanting to discover the more elegant side of the Costers del Segre DO .
